Dhaka: More than 17 lakh taxpayers filed their income tax returns online in the fiscal year 2024-25, while over 21 lakh taxpayers have completed registration for e-returns.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) announced that a total of 1,712,492 taxpayers filed their income tax returns online, whereas 2,165,321 taxpayers completed e-return registrations during the fiscal year. This shift is part of a broader automation programme aimed at making tax services more accessible and efficient.
The NBR highlighted that the simplified online return submission system has been well received by taxpayers, who are increasingly filing their returns voluntarily. The authority emphasized its commitment to providing uninterrupted services throughout the year, including the provision for instant online issuance of income tax certificates.
Additionally, under Section 180 of the Income Tax Act, 2023, taxpayers have the option to submit revised returns online within 180 days of filing the original return if they discover any errors or omissions. This facility can be accessed conveniently from home, according to the NBR.
The authority expressed gratitude to those who submitted returns online and encouraged taxpayers to continue utilizing the digital services available year-round for return filing and certificate collection.
