Sylhet: Security personnel at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) detained an outsider on Sunday night for allegedly harassing a female student on campus. The individual, identified as 27-year-old Anarul Mia, was apprehended in front of the university's teachers' quarters and subsequently handed over to the police after being taken to the Proctor's Office.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the incident unfolded when the victim reported that Anarul followed her on a motorcycle as she was returning to her dormitory from a tutoring session. He allegedly stopped his motorcycle, asked for her mobile phone number, and proposed becoming friends, in addition to making several inappropriate remarks.

After the incident, the student informed her friends about the situation via phone, prompting university security personnel to arrive at the scene. They detained Anarul and escorted him to the Proctor's Office. Shoaibur Rahman, a security guard at the university, stated that Anarul was detained in front of the teachers' quarters, where a number of students later gathered.

University Proctor Professor Md. Mokhlesur Rahman confirmed that Anarul was handed over to the police. He assured that appropriate action would be taken against him in accordance with the law and emphasized that the university would provide all necessary support to the victim.
