Kishoreganj: Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhter today emphasized the importance of granting leases for water bodies exclusively to genuine fishermen, excluding all others. During a meeting with registered fishermen from the Mithamoin, Itna, and Astogram upazilas, she highlighted the need for this focused allocation.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Adviser Akhter stated, "Only the fishermen will get a lease of the water bodies, others are not." She also pointed out the necessity of constructing more culverts on 'all weather roads' to enhance fish reproduction in haor areas and ensure a smooth breeding flow of water.

Addressing the issue of illegal fishing practices, the adviser noted that not all natural changes are due to nature, indicating that some are manmade. She stressed that the efforts of fishermen are crucial, alongside police and other officials, to combat the use of illegal current nets in the country.

The meeting was chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Kishoreganj Mejabe Rahmot and featured contributions from Director General of the Fisheries Department Dr. Muhammad Abdur Rouf, Assistant Police Super (ASP) Subir Kumar Saha, and Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Khan Mohammad Abdullah Mamun.
