Dhaka: Home Adviser Lieutenant General Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd) today announced that a total of 1,604 street protests have occurred in Dhaka and its surrounding areas since the interim government took office. He emphasized the impact of these demonstrations on public life, urging political and other organizations to utilize venues like Suhrawardy Udyan or open fields for their activities instead of obstructing streets.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Jahangir highlighted that 123 organizations were responsible for the protests, which have caused significant inconvenience to the general populace. Speaking to the media after a core committee meeting on law and order at the Bangladesh Secretariat, he stressed the detrimental effect of street blockades on the city's functionality.
Jahangir noted that a single protest can bring the entire city to a halt, causing widespread disruption. In response to inquiries, he mentioned the possibility of designating specific venues for demonstrations should there be a demand for such measures.
