Chattogram: Health and Family Welfare Adviser Nurjahan Begum today called on doctors to refrain from political involvement and focus on their responsibilities as healthcare providers. She stressed the importance of maintaining humanity, transparency, accountability, and honesty in their duties.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the adviser made these remarks during a meeting with the hospital’s executive committee, teachers, doctors, nurses, and officials in the conference room after visiting Chattogram Ma-O-Shishu Hospital. She highlighted healthcare as a top priority and mentioned ongoing efforts to reduce prices of essential medical supplies like heart rings and cancer medicines. Additionally, she pointed out the necessity for equitable distribution of specialized hospitals outside Dhaka.
Nurjahan also encouraged private entrepreneurs in Chattogram to provide specialized medical services or establish specialized hospitals, acknowledging Chattogram Ma-O-Shishu Hospital’s significant role in treating COVID-19 patients. She emphasized the importance of improving nurse training for overseas employment.
The event saw attendance from prominent figures, including Dr. Md. Manjurul Islam, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Private Secretary to the Adviser, Dr. Sheikh Fazle Rabbi, Chattogram Divisional Director of Health, Dr. Jahangir Alam, Civil Surgeon, along with doctors from various government and private hospitals.
