Rangpur: A new traffic management system has been introduced by the Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP) Traffic Division to alleviate congestion in the city during the influx of Eid shoppers. The initiative aims to streamline the movement of rickshaws and auto-rickshaws by establishing check posts at various points throughout the city.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Metropolitan Police have taken steps to control the movement of battery-run auto-rickshaws in critical areas such as the Lakshmi Cinema Hall intersection, Jiban Bima intersection, Lions School and College intersection, and the customs office on Central Road. This effort is expected to reduce congestion on the main roads, providing some relief to those shopping for Eid.

City residents have expressed support for the Metropolitan Police Traffic Division’s efforts to tackle traffic congestion. Shoppers and business owners believe that the new traffic management measures will mitigate the challenges faced during the busy Eid shopping season.

Eid shoppers, like Tuhin Mandal and Parveen Akhter, often face significant delays due to traffic congestion, especially from the Jahaj Company intersection to the City Corporation Office. The congestion typically worsens during Eid-ul-Fitr festivities. Parveen Akhter noted the difficulty of shopping with family while fasting, highlighting the need for improved traffic conditions to enhance the shopping experience.

College student Armanul Haque, visiting from Kurigram, acknowledged the positive impact of the new traffic rules, stating they have already provided some relief. Md Abdur Rashid, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) of RpMP, explained that the pressure on auto-rickshaws and rickshaws intensifies during Eid, prompting the need for the new traffic management strategy.

Rashid emphasized the importance of cooperation from city residents and expressed hope that the revised traffic system would alleviate congestion and allow shoppers to move freely and comfortably.
