Dhaka: Sarjis Alam, principal organizer for the northern region of the National Citizens Party (NCP), has stated that the party is open to the next general election taking place in April next year, provided that essential reforms are made visible before the polls. Speaking at Chowrangi crossing, Alam emphasized the significance of witnessing trial and basic reforms in the judiciary, law enforcement agencies, and the Election Commission ahead of the elections.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Alam addressed journalists, highlighting concerns from past elections, such as the misuse of power and influence of black money. He stressed the importance of a level playing field for all political parties, regardless of size, to ensure they can participate fully in the election process. Alam expressed hope for equal opportunities for all parties in the upcoming elections.

Alam further stated that power should not be used to victimize anyone and expressed a desire to prevent future incidents of polling center takeovers and ballot paper theft. He urged the interim government to demonstrate professionalism by implementing necessary reforms within law enforcement, the Election Commission, and the judiciary.

The event also saw the presence of Hasnat Abdullah, principal organizer of the NCP’s south region, and Tanbirul Bari Nayon, coordinator of Panchagar Sadar Upazila. Earlier, Sarjis Alam, alongside Hasnat Abdullah, exchanged Eid greetings with party leaders and workers.
