Dhaka: Akhtar Hossain, Member Secretary of the National Citizen Party (NCP), today called upon all anti-fascist political forces to impose a ban on Awami League politics. Addressing a protest rally in front of the National Museum in the capital's Shahbagh, he also demanded that the authorities take steps to cancel the registration of Awami League as a political party.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the NCP leader stated that the people had defeated Awami League at a great cost and would not allow its rehabilitation in the country. He claimed that whenever Awami League comes to power, it brings uncertainty for the people. He accused the Awami League of establishing fascism in Bangladesh through elections in 2014, 2018, and 2024, which he said destroyed democracy.
Hossain further mentioned that the liberation war of 1971 was fought for equality, human dignity, and social justice, but the Awami League, after coming to power, replaced democracy with BAKSAL. He asserted that sacrifices were made against the Awami League, and vowed not to allow its politics in Bangladesh, as long as they had a single drop of blood in their bodies. He emphasized that the politics of fascism and Mujibism ideology would not be rehabilitated in Bangladesh.
He alleged that the Awami League has committed several genocides in Bangladesh, including the Peelkhana carnage, the 2013 massacre, the Shapla massacre, the anti-Modi movement massacre, and the latest 2024 massacre, without expressing regret for these actions. Hossain warned that any force or individual supporting the Awami League would be resisted by the people.
Calling for a ban on Awami League politics, he asserted that both the party and its members must be brought to justice. He declared that there would be no politics in the name, ideology, and symbol of the Awami League in Bangladesh in the coming days.
NCP Chief Organizer (South) Hasnat Abdullah and senior joint convener Ariful Islam Adib were also present at the rally, among others.
