Dhaka: The National Consensus Commission (NCC) today adopted a condolence motion in response to the casualties from Monday's Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) fighter plane crash at Milestone School and College in Uttara, which resulted in the deaths of 27 individuals, primarily children, and left many others injured.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, thirty political parties, including the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, National Citizen Party (NCP), Gono Odhikar Parishad, Ganosanhati Andolan (People's Solidarity Movement), Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), Biplobi Workers' Party (Revolutionary Workers Party), and Amar Bangladesh (AB) Party, along with members of the commission, participated in the discussion and signed the condolence motion. The NCC confirmed this development through a press release.
The condolence motion was read out by Commission member Dr. Badiul Alam Majumdar before the 17th day of discussions in the second phase between political parties and the NCC at the Doel Hall of the Foreign Service Academy. It expressed sorrow over the plane crash and extended condolences to the families affected. The motion also called for prayers for the eternal peace of the deceased and wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.
The NCP's motion urged the government to provide compensation to the victims' families, ensure proper medical care for the injured, and investigate the cause of the crash to prevent future occurrences.
NCC Vice-Chairman Professor Dr. Ali Riaz, in his opening speech, expressed his sympathies and called on the nation to support the bereaved families. He urged the government to guarantee adequate medical care for the injured and conduct a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the accident.
The meeting was attended by Commission members, including Justice Emdadul Haque, Dr. Iftekharuzzaman, Safar Raj Hossain, Dr. Ayub Mia, and Chief Adviser's Special Assistant Manir Haidar. The Monday session of the Commission was postponed after expressing condolences over the tragedy.
