Jamalpur: Detective Branch of Police in a drive recovered a huge amount of hemp and arrested an alleged drug peddler from Melandah upazila of the district early today. Acting on a tip-off, a team of DB police conducted a raid at Rayer Bakai village under Phulkocha union of the upazila and recovered 74 kilograms of hemp, worth around Taka 22.20 lakh.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the police apprehended Mst Suzeda, 38, wife of Belal Miah of the village, in connection with the recovered cannabis. Officer-in-charge, District Detective Branch, Md Nazmus Sakib, confirmed the arrest and the seizure.
A case was filed with Melandah Police Station regarding the incident, Sakib added.
