Dhaka: Former Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University, eminent educationist Professor Dr. Anwar Ullah Chowdhury, has stated that poet Kazi Nazrul Islam was a courageous figure in the anti-hegemonic movement. “Nazrul is our inspiration indeed, who comes to us again and again as a timeless inspiration,” he remarked during a discussion held at the Jatiya Press Club.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Chowdhury was speaking as the chief guest at a discussion organized by the Bangladesh Jatiyabadi Sangskritik Dal to commemorate the 49th death anniversary of the national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam. The event saw participation from notable figures including BNP Chairperson’s Adviser Dr. Sukamal Barua, senior journalist Mostafa Kamal Majumder, cultural personality Rezabuddaula Chowdhury, playwright Babul Ahmed, poet Mahmudul Hasan Nizami, writer Kalam Faizi, and several others.
“It is our misfortune as a nation that we could not give due prominence to the national poet,” Prof. Chowdhury lamented. He highlighted that Nazrul’s poems and songs provided enthusiastic encouragement to the revolutionaries of Bengal during the anti-British movement. Furthermore, he noted that Nazrul’s songs similarly stirred resistance against the oppression and injustice of the then Pakistani regime, asserting that these compositions will forever serve as an inspiration.
