Jhenaidah: Attorney General Md Asaduzzaman announced today that the forthcoming national elections are scheduled to take place in February 2026, under the leadership of Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus. Speaking at a view-exchange meeting at the Jhenaidah Diabetes Hospital premises, Asaduzzaman emphasized the people's role in overcoming any obstacles leading up to the polls.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Attorney General addressed concerns regarding the legitimacy of the current interim government. He highlighted the impact of political violence since 2009, including numerous disappearances and extrajudicial killings. Asaduzzaman credited the victory of the student-people's movement with the removal of the previous Hasina government, marking a step towards democratic progress in the country.
He further explained that the new circumstances have granted legitimacy to the present government, as it was established through the people's mandate to exercise state power. Acknowledging ongoing conspiracies aimed at disrupting the upcoming election, Asaduzzaman affirmed that the elections will proceed as planned in February, led by Dr. Muhammad Yunus.
The Attorney General expressed confidence that citizens will participate eagerly in the elections, viewing it as a fulfillment of the social contract between the current government and the people. The meeting was presided over by Jhenaidah Diabetic Association President Md Moazzem Hossain, with contributions from other notable figures including the association's General Secretary Munsi Kamal Azad Pannur and district BNP president Advocate MA Majid.
