Nasim for collective efforts to build tobacco-free country

DHAKA, April 4, 2017 (BSS) - Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammed Nasim today called for collective efforts of all concerned to make the country tobacco free by 2040.

"The government alone cannot make the country tobacco free. Collective efforts of all stakeholders, including ministries, are must to this end," he told a roundtable at a city hotel.

The daily Samakal and PROGGA arranged the meeting on 'National Tobacco Control Policy and Health Development Surcharge Management Policy' with Samakal editor Golam Sarwar in the chair.

Economist Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad, National Professor Brig (retd) Abdul Malik, journalist Manzurul Ahsan Bulbul, representatives of anti-tobacco organizations and senior journalists of different print and electronics media took part in the discussion.

Samakal executive editor Mustafiz Shafi conducted the function.

Nasim said National Tobacco Control Policy and Health Development Surcharge Management Policy will make effect soon.

Reiterating the government's firm commitment to control tobacco, he said all health complexes, centers and ministries have already been made non-smoking zones, he said.

Earlier, the minister unveiled a cover of a 'Theme Song' on the World Health Day-2017 at Channel-i office in the city.
