Sylhet: Commerce, Industries, and Textiles and Jute Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir today emphasized the importance of scientific research focused on indigenous solutions to meet the country’s practical needs. He made these remarks while inaugurating the divisional-level 47th National Science and Technology Week and Science Fair at the Mohammad Ali Gymnasium, Sylhet District Stadium.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Muktadir highlighted that in scientific research, there is no concept of failure, as each step taken in the pursuit of knowledge contributes to new experiences and lays the groundwork for future innovations. He urged teachers, parents, and stakeholders to motivate students to engage more in scientific activities, pointing out that such involvement is crucial for building a technologically advanced nation.
Muktadir further noted that knowledge-based societies are essential for national progress, with development driven by innovation and knowledge cultivation. Citing the United States as an example, he mentioned that university-based research and innovation have been instrumental in the country’s attainment of global leadership.
He commended the creativity, courage, and innovative thinking of the students participating in the science fair, as demonstrated by their projects. The minister referenced successful examples of need-based research, such as oral saline for preventing diarrhea and locally developed methods for preserving onions and potatoes.
Lastly, Muktadir underscored the importance of continuing science fairs and scientific practices in educational institutions to inspire new ideas and innovations among the youth. The inaugural ceremony was presided over by Divisional Commissioner Md Mashiur Rahman.
