Dhaka: BNP Standing Committee member Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan today alleged that the Awami League government has systematically destroyed the country’s education system. He criticized the government’s nationalization of rural schools, claiming that students and teachers are not attending and that the move was part of a strategy to keep the nation uneducated.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Moyeen praised former Prime Minister and BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia for her contributions to education, noting her introduction of student stipends. He spoke as the chief guest at a discussion marking the 44th martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman at Dhaka University, organized by the BNP-leaning White Panel of teachers.
Dr. Moyeen highlighted Ziaur Rahman’s education policies, suggesting that research could be conducted on his educational initiatives. He recounted how Rahman, motivated by a passion for education, arranged a river cruise for meritorious students and took various efforts to educate the nation, unlike other political parties.
He further remarked on the importance of education for national strength, citing America as an example of a country powered by its educational institutions. He also credited Ziaur Rahman with being the first to address the need for real education and nuclear power, asserting that Rahman’s contributions to the country’s development were significant and widespread.
BNP’s Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi echoed these sentiments, describing Rahman as a farsighted statesman who introduced a production-oriented education system. The event was presided over by DU White Panel President Dr. Morshed Hasan Khan, with a keynote speech by Prof. Mohammad Siddiqur Rahman, and included speeches from other BNP leaders.
