FARIDPUR, Jan 13, 2017 (BSS)- A month-long Jasim Polli Mela' began today at the ancestral home of Palli Kabi Jasimuddin here to acquaint the people with writer's unique power of depicting picturesque Bangladesh as well as life, culture, joy and sorrows of its inhabitants.
Jasimuddin's writings, which earned for him the repute of Palli Kabi, enable the people of all walks of life to know the scenic beauty of rural Bangladesh and life style of rural-folk.
LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Engineer Khondoker Mosharraf Hossain inaugurated the mela at village Gobindapur on the outskirts of the town this evening.
The Polli Mela( village fair) has been organized in observance of the 114th birth anniversary of Palli Kabi Jasimuddin.
Inaugurating the mela, Mosharraf described Jasimuddin as a real poet of 'Gram Bangla', who projected the intrinsic pictures of Bangladesh through his creative writings.
The minister said the project, which started in 2011 styled as 'Jasim Complex' at an estimated cost of Taka 16 crore, has now been completed. It would be used to preserve the creations of Jasimuddin.
A mausoleum and a research center will also be set up on the complex premises, he added. He said functioning of the complex would start soon.
About two hundred stalls have been set up on the mela premises.
The inaugural function, jointly organized by Faridpur District Administration and Jasim Foundation, was presided over by Deputy Commissioner Umme Salma Tanzia.
It was addressed, among others, by DC of Gopalganj M Mukhlesur Rahman Sarker, Police Super of Faridpur Shubhash Chandra Saha, Sadar upazilla chairman K Mohtesham Hossain Babor, Ambicapur Union chairman Abu Sayeed Choudhury, Mukti Joddha Commander Abul Faez and son of the late poet Dr. Jamal Anowar.
