Local government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Engineer Khandker Mosharraf Hossain today stressed the need for wash hand with soap as it is the effective way to fight infectious disease.
The minister also requested all the guardians and teachers to inspire the children in washing hand with soap which he said can save the new generation from the deadly diseases and ensure better nutrition for them.
He was addressing an inaugural function as the chief guest marking the Global Handwashing Day at Osmani Memorial Smriti.
Bangladesh likewise the globe celebrates the Day at every October 15 aimed at increasing awareness and understanding about the importance of Handwashing with soap as an effective and affordable way to prevent diseases and save lives.
To mark the day, hundreds of thousands of schools, community groups, organizations, and governments across the globe join together to promote Handwashing with soap and celebrate Global Handwashing Day. The theme for the Day of this year is "Make Handwashing a habit!"
Referring to sanitation coverage in Bangladesh, the minister said. "We are now in second position after Sri Lanka which made possible for the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina."
"Bangladesh is now observing October month as sanitation day," he said, adding that the governments is now working to ensure better sanitation and distribution of pure drinking water to all."
The minister formally inaugurated the Day with releasing balloons upon conclusion of the discussion.
LGRD Secretary Abdul Malek spoke on the occasion as the special guest while Chief Engineer of Public Health Engineering Md Wali Ullah gave the welcome speech.
Students coming from different educational institutions took oath after raising hands with saying, "Make Handwashing a habit!" and wash hands using soap and water.
