Dhaka: Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhter today urged all concerned to bring Mobile Veterinary Clinic (MVC) services to the doorsteps of the rural poor people. ‘MVC is a great achievement in the context of Bangladesh. However, its proper use must be ensured,’ she said while distributing MVC to 115 upazila livestock departments at Livestock Research Centre (LRI) in the city’s Mohakhali.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Farida stated that the MVC functions as a hospital with all necessary facilities for animal treatments, including a surgeon. She instructed the Director General of the Livestock Department and others involved to make efforts to deliver this service to farmers in remote areas, emphasizing that MVC should not be utilized for other purposes.
Farida highlighted the importance of extending services beyond large or commercial farms to reach rural and remote farmers. She encouraged learning about the service and initiating measures to implement it effectively.
She also pointed out the risk of disease spread among animals, stressing the need for comprehensive care to prevent sick animals from entering markets. The safety and health of all livestock and birds should be prioritized, she added.
The event was attended by Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock Nilufa Akhter, Director (Administration) of the Department of Fisheries Dr. Md. Boyzar Rahman, Project Director of the Livestock and Dairy Development Project Dr. Md Jasim Uddin, Spokesperson of the Shailkupa Combined Farm Council and Farmers Federation Md Tanzir Alam Robin, among others, with Director General of the Department of Livestock Dr. Md Abu Sufian presiding over the event.
