Chattogram: Mobile courts in Chattogram have imposed fines totaling TK 105,000 on four commercial establishments for a series of violations, which include the use of expired food colors, missing expiration dates and price labels on products, the use of harmful chemicals, and the production of unclean and unhealthy products in the city’s Bahaddarhat area.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the operation was led by Faiz Ullah, Deputy Director of the National Directorate of Consumer Rights, in collaboration with officials from the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI). The operation aimed to target violations within the food industry and ensure consumer safety and product quality.

The mobile court’s investigation revealed that shop owners were engaged in several violations, such as utilizing expired food colors, failing to mark expiration dates and price labels on their products, incorporating harmful chemicals, and producing unclean and unhealthy food items.

Faiz Ullah emphasized the importance of these operations by stating, “During today’s operation, four establishments were fined a total of TK 105,000 for flouting various rules. We will continue to conduct such drives in future for the sake of public interests.” The fines serve as a warning to other establishments that fail to comply with safety and quality regulations.
