Two Held with Gold Bars Worth Tk 3.69 Crore in Jhenaidah

Jhenaidah: Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in a drive has recovered four gold bars worth Taka over 3.69 crore from a passenger bus at Maheshpur upazila of the district. Two youths were also arrested on suspicion of being involved in gold smuggling during the raid, a BGB-58 Battalion press release said last night.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a BGB team acted on a tip-off and intercepted a bus of ‘Haji Deluxe Express’ in the Kakiladari area on Saturday afternoon. During the search, they recovered the gold bars weighing 2 kg 331 grams. The market value of the gold bars is Taka 3 crore 69 lakh 84 thousand.



The detainees have been identified as Sourav Biswas, 25, son of Kartik Biswas of Khoddara village in Kaliganj upazila, and his associate Ranjit Biswas, 25, son of Ananta Biswas of Kagmari village in Kotchandpur upazila of the district. The recovered gold has been deposited in the government treasury, and the two detainees have been handed over to Maheshpur Police Station, said BGB commander Lieutenant Colonel Rafiqul Islam.
