Istanbul:Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Faqir Mahbub Anam has emphasized the significance of building trust, enhancing capacity, and fostering international cooperation in the application of artificial intelligence (AI) within the public sector.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister highlighted these points during his address representing 12 countries at the opening session of a two-day interregional conference titled 'AI Governance in Practice: Practical Use Cases, Institutional Capacity, Innovation at Scale and Global Cooperation' in Istanbul. The conference is organized by the Government of the Republic of Korea, Astana Civil Service Hub, UNDP, and the Republic of Türkiye.

Minister Faqir Mahbub Anam stated that AI is already impacting government decision-making, citizen services, and development processes. He stressed that the crucial consideration is not merely the speed of AI adoption, but how wisely, responsibly, and inclusively it is governed and regulated.

For effective AI governance, the minister underscored the importance of trust and confidence, capacity building, and international cooperation. He advocated for responsible, transparent, accountable, and human-centered use of AI in government, alongside skilled human resources, effective institutional capacity, appropriate data governance, and timely legal frameworks.

Highlighting the importance of global collaboration, the minister noted that no single country holds all the solutions. He suggested that mutual cooperation through experience and knowledge exchange can drive sustainable transformation. Citing Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s address at the United Nations General Assembly, he expressed that AI should be a force for eliminating existing inequalities rather than creating new ones. He urged for technology transfer, skills development, and access to modern technologies at affordable prices.

Minister Anam expressed hope that the conference would foster a platform for innovation, trust, and inclusive technology, ensuring no country is left behind. He reaffirmed Bangladesh's strong commitment to supporting this initiative.

The conference is attended by ministers and senior officials from various countries in the Caucasus, Central Asia, and the Asia-Pacific region, alongside representatives from UNDP and international development partner organizations.
