Minister Denounces Misinformation on Airport Harassment

Dhaka:Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashiduzzaman Millat stated that outdated videos are being circulated on social media, falsely suggesting harassment of passengers at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA).

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Millat addressed these concerns after observing the Airport Emergency Exercise (Fire)-2026 at HSIA. He clarified that recent claims regarding female passengers being asked to show marriage certificates were unfounded. The minister urged the public to be wary of unverified social media content.

Millat emphasized that any negligence at the airport will face strict consequences, while diligent officials will receive recognition. He stressed the importance of emergency preparedness and the competence of responsible agencies, declaring no tolerance for negligence.

Regarding trolley services at HSIA, Millat noted the availability of approximately 4,000 trolleys, with an additional 10,000 prepared for the upcoming Third Terminal. He also addressed accusations of non-cooperation by some airport officials, noting that the government is investigating and addressing these issues.

The minister highlighted the importance of aviation safety and the necessity of fast and coordinated emergency responses. He reiterated a zero-compromise approach to aviation safety during the Airport Emergency Exercise 2026, emphasizing the need for swift decision-making and preparedness.

The exercise simulated an emergency involving a passenger aircraft from Bangkok, which experienced engine fire and technical issues. The scenario involved an emergency landing where the aircraft veered off the runway, causing a fire. Airport fire crews, ATC, rescue teams, and other bodies conducted coordinated operations to manage the situation.

The drill showcased HSIA's emergency preparedness and coordination capabilities. CAAB Chairman Air Vice Marshal Md Mostafa Mahmud Siddiq highlighted the importance of regular training and drills for safe aviation operations, assessing personnel skills, and enhancing coordination among agencies. HSIA Executive Director Group Captain S M Ragib Samad, Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry Secretary Fahmida Akhter, and other senior officials also attended the event.
