4,103 Fishermen Families in Munshiganj to Receive Rice Assistance During Fishing Ban

Munshiganj:A total of 4,103 fishermen families in Munshiganj district are set to receive 102.575 metric tonnes of rice as humanitarian aid. This initiative aims to support the families during a 22-day ban on hilsa fishing, which coincides with the peak breeding season.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the District Fisheries Office announced that the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock allocated the rice under the Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) programme for fishermen families in five upazilas of the district.

The assistance will be distributed among 1,092 families in Sadar upazila, 900 in Gazaria, 1,000 in Louhajang, 500 in Tongibari, and 611 in Sreenagar.

Fisheries officer Md Golam Mehedi Hasan stated that fishermen are required to cease fishing activities from October 6 to October 27 as part of government measures to protect breeding hilsa.

The VGF rice distribution is intended to help the fishermen families meet their basic needs during the fishing ban, with each beneficiary family receiving 25 kilograms of rice.
