Dhaka: Four children died with measles-like symptoms in 24 hours until 8:00 am on Sunday, raising the country's combined number of confirmed and suspected measles-related deaths to 967 this year. The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has classified all four latest fatalities as suspected measles deaths.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the total number of suspected measles deaths has reached 868, while confirmed deaths from measles have remained the same at 99. In the same 24-hour period, a total of 1,151 new suspected measles cases were reported, bringing the cumulative number of suspected cases nationwide to 156,829. Meanwhile, 365 new confirmed measles cases were recorded, increasing the total number of laboratory-confirmed infections to 19,218.
Since March 15 this year, 137,347 patients with suspected measles have been hospitalized across the country. Of these, 132,292 have recovered, reflecting the ongoing efforts by health authorities to manage and treat the outbreak. The DGHS continues to monitor the situation closely, as the nation grapples with the widespread impact of this contagious disease.
