Rangpur: State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj has announced an initiative to introduce a special allowance for teachers working in char and remote areas, taking into account the challenges of distance and travel. He explained that the allowance structure will be tailored based on each school's location, travel distance, communication system, and inaccessibility level during a briefing after a training workshop organized by the Rangpur Divisional Deputy Director's Office of the Directorate of Primary Education at the PTI Auditorium in Rangpur city.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the workshop, titled 'Classroom Management, Monitoring, Accountability and Reform of Administrative Structure in Primary Education in Bangladesh', saw participation from primary education officials across all eight districts of the Rangpur division. Bobby Hajjaj emphasized the need to reassess which areas qualify as remote and determine how teachers and officials there will receive special benefits. Identification of remote areas will be carried out with the support of the local administration, and recommendations from field-level officials will be compiled for further decisions.
The State Minister also spoke on reforming the primary education administration, highlighting the need for a clear leadership structure that details responsibilities, decision-making power, and accountability at each administrative level. He stressed the importance of enhancing the ability of field-level officials to make quick and accurate decisions and ensuring integrated work discipline from the department to the school. The ultimate goal is to make the benefits of administrative reforms evident in the classroom environment.
Hajjaj also introduced a new 'Science Toy' programme set to launch next year as a pilot project in primary schools, aimed at fostering children's scientific thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills through interactive learning. Additionally, eight sports activities will be incorporated into the new primary curriculum to support children's physical and mental development.
Addressing teacher presence, the State Minister warned against teaching by proxy teachers and assured that strict actions will be taken against any irregularities or negligence. He urged teachers to embrace their roles in delivering quality education. The event was attended by Director General of the Directorate of Primary Education Shahina Ferdousi, Director (Administration) Mohammad Kamrul Hasan, and Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education Israt Jahan. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Rangpur Md Shariful Alam presided over the workshop.
