According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Mayor Shahadat emphasized the need for ongoing market monitoring, stating that traders often attempt to earn a whole year's income in just one month during Ramadan. This has prompted the city administration to take a firm stance. "They go crazy to earn a whole year's income in one month during Ramadan. That is why we are monitoring the market. We will continue monitoring," he said while exchanging views with journalists after visiting Khatunganj, the largest wholesale market in the city this afternoon.
The city mayor stressed that both the administration and City Corporation are committed to maintaining market stability. 'In Muslim countries around the world, during Ramadan, goods are sold at subsidized rates. But some unscrupulous businessmen find opportunities here try to earn more money in this month,' he added.
The visit was attended by several officials, including Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md. Kamruzzaman, Additional District Magistrate Syed Mahbubul Haque, Assistant Commissioners Md.
