SHERPUR, Jan 24, 2017(BSS)-Information Secretary Mortuza Ahmed said today that enacting laws was not enough to protect child rights. He emphasized the role of publicity and mass awareness about the issue.
"The message must go out to parents, otherwise it is pointless," he said.
He was speaking as the chief guest at a meeting at the local Shilpakala Academy auditorium. Chaired by the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dr A M Parvez, the meeting was also addressed by the Civil Surgeon Dr Anwar Hossain, Additional Deputy Commissioner AT M Ziaul Islam, Additional Police Superintendant Md Salauddin Sikder and Municipal Mayor Golam Mohammad Kibria Liton.
The Information Secretary further said that child rights are enshrined in our constitution and we have an obligation to enforce it. He said the law prohibits the use of children below 14 years of age to do hazardous work. "We must ensure it, "he said.
Earlier, a rally was brought out in the town led by the Information Secretary to raise awareness about child rights.
