Mamata Banerjee Congratulates Tarique Rahman on Electoral Victory

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today extended her congratulations to Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairman Tarique Rahman following his party’s triumph in the 13th National Parliament Election. In a message shared on her verified X handle (formerly known as Twitter) at 1:00 pm, she referred to him as ‘My Tarique Bhai.’



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Mamata Banerjee expressed her heartfelt congratulations, “My hearty congratulations, shubhonandan, to all my brothers and sisters, all the people of Bangladesh. My advance Ramazan Mubarak to all of them,” she stated. She further conveyed her wishes for wellbeing and happiness to Tarique Rahman, his party, and other parties involved, while expressing optimism for the continued cordial relations between Bangladesh and India.



The 13th National Parliament Election 2026, alongside a referendum, took place in the country yesterday. Voting occurred from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm, followed by the commencement of the counting process. The Election Commission began announcing results from the returning officers last night, completing the announcements this morning.



The BNP, under the leadership of Tarique Rahman, achieved an absolute majority in the elections, marking a significant political shift.
