Rangpur: Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Md Aminul Islam Bulbul has announced plans to revive the cricket legacy of Rangpur, highlighting the contributions of its cricketers to the national team in the past and their ongoing involvement.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the BCB is committed to restoring Rangpur’s cricket tradition by establishing an international-standard cricket stadium and a venue for premier leagues, including age-based competitions, in the Rangpur division. This was revealed during the inauguration ceremony of a day-long festival marking the 25th anniversary of Bangladesh achieving Test Cricket status, held at the Rangpur Cricket Ground with Aminul Islam Bulbul as the chief guest.
Aminul Islam Bulbul emphasized the richness of Bangladesh’s cricket scene, noting the country’s high rankings across all formats-Test, ODI, and T20-and suggesting that Bangladesh’s top-level status is imminent. He outlined steps being taken to enhance the quality of play for future cricketers, including visits to divisional cities and efforts to increase the number of playgrounds, stadiums, practice pitches, and cricket spectators.
The BCB aims to identify talented cricketers through regional cricket games and competitions, with plans to construct 100 cricket pitches nationwide to expand the game’s reach. The event also saw participation from several notable figures, including Additional Divisional Commissioner Md Asraful Islam, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Rabiul Faisal, and Bangladesh women’s cricket captain Nigar Sultana, among others.
The festival was inaugurated by the BCB president with a balloon release and a Six-a-Side under 12 Cricket Festival toss. The event featured activities such as a pace challenge, basic cricket coaching, commentary skill opportunities, and various competitions, blending cricket with education, quizzes, and fan engagement. The BCB president also interacted with players, parents, and sports enthusiasts during the festival.
