Colombo: Bangladesh went past teams like Australia and India to concede the highest number of innings defeats in Test cricket's history when they suffered an innings and 78-run defeat to Sri Lanka in the Colombo Test today.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, both Australia and India had endured 46 innings defeats in their history. While Australia played 875 matches over 148 years of Tests and India played 590 matches in their 93-year Test history to concede 46 innings defeats, Bangladesh surpassed them in just their 25 years of Test cricket.

The ignominious defeat marks Bangladesh's 47th innings defeat in 155 Tests, with Sri Lanka now inflicting nine of those. Sri Lanka has joined South Africa at the top of the charts for handing the most innings defeats to Bangladesh.

In the same period, Bangladesh managed to win just 23 matches. In contrast, Australia achieved 420 wins, 219 draws, and 234 defeats, while India secured 181 wins, 223 draws, and 185 losses.

Only England (66), New Zealand (50), and West Indies (48) are ahead of Bangladesh in terms of losing by an innings. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka (42), South Africa (39), Pakistan (34), and Zimbabwe (30) trail behind Bangladesh in terms of innings defeats.
