Gazipur: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir announced that law enforcement agencies will maintain a stringent stance to ensure smooth and hassle-free travel during the upcoming Eid. “To keep traffic movement normal and congestion-free on highways, more than 400 additional police personnel have been deployed at important highways in Gazipur,” he informed journalists after attending an iftar mahfil organized by Gazipur Metropolitan Police at the district police lines ground.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the IGP revealed that a separate area in the Chandra region has been designated for transport workers to reduce the random boarding and alighting of passengers on highways. He emphasized the importance of identifying those inciting unrest among workers in industrial areas to restore stability. Furthermore, he highlighted the need for improved coordination with the city corporation to manage illegal battery-run auto-rickshaws, aiming to ease traffic congestion in the city.
The police chief expressed concerns over the increasing spread of drugs, which he believes is leading the country’s youth astray and could pose serious challenges to the future leadership of the nation. Member of Parliament M Manjurul Karim Rony, speaking as the chief guest, reiterated the government’s commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against drugs.
Gazipur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Israil Howlader welcomed attendees to the program. Other notable attendees included former Member of Parliament and freedom fighter Hasan Uddin Sarkar, Dhaka Range DIG Rezaul Karim Mallik, District Police Superintendent Md Sharif Uddin, acting administrator of the district administration Ahmed Hossain Bhuiya, central executive president of Sramik Dal Salah Uddin Sarkar, Gazipur city Jamaat Ameer Professor Jamal Uddin, district BNP member secretary Barrister Israk Ahmed Siddiqui, and Gazipur Bar Association President Shamsul Haque Bhuiya.
