Khulna: The 44th martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, Bir Uttam, was observed in Khulna, highlighting his contributions to the nation.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Khulna BNP orchestrated a series of events as part of their five-day commemoration program, including a mourning rally and discussion meeting.
The rally, organized by the BNP’s Khulna city and district units, commenced at 10:00 am in front of Shaheed Hadis Park despite adverse weather conditions. Participants marched through the main streets of the city. The rally was attended by BNP’s Information Affairs Secretary Azizul Bari Helal, Khulna city BNP President Shafiqul Alam Mona, District BNP Convener Moniruzzaman Montu, and other prominent BNP figures.
On this occasion, black flags were hoisted at the city BNP office and all party offices. Party members wore black badges, and special prayers were offered at the city office. The Sadar Thana BNP organized food distribution among the destitute, while similar activities were conducted across various religious venues within Khulna city and districts.
Documentary films were screened at thana unit BNP offices using projectors. The Jatiyatabadi Swechchhasebak Dal provided meals at Lillah Boarding, and the BNP women’s wing held a discussion, prayer session, and clothing distribution. The BNP’s farmers’ wing also arranged food distribution in honor of Ziaur Rahman.
A discussion meeting at the city BNP office, chaired by city unit BNP President Advocate Shafiqul Islam Mona, featured remarks from chief guest Azizul Bari Helal. Helal highlighted Ziaur Rahman’s efforts in uniting the nation and his role in resolving international issues, crediting him as the architect of modern Bangladesh.
Another discussion was conducted at Tolna JPDS girls school in Fultala upazila, chaired by District Unit BNP Convener Moniruzzaman Montu, with former MP and Bangladesh Cricket Board President Ali Asgor Lobi as the chief guest. The event concluded with a doa mahfil and food distribution for the underprivileged.
