Khulna: The Khulna City Corporation (KCC) efficiently cleared all animal waste from the city within eight hours following the Eid-ul-Azha sacrifices on Thursday.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a team of over 950 workers commenced the cleanup operation at 2:00 pm on Eid day and completed it by 10:00 pm. The extensive effort was supported by a fleet of 85 vehicles, including 76 trucks and six container movers, along with 16 specialized waste-removal units functioning throughout the city’s 31 wards.
The conservancy department employed 4,500 kg of bleaching powder and 450 liters of antiseptic fluid, Savlon, to cleanse and sanitize the streets. In addition, the KCC distributed 10,000 eco-friendly garbage bags to residents and allocated Taka 5,000 to each ward secretary for local cleaning activities.
To facilitate smooth operations, the KCC established 140 designated slaughtering areas prior to the festival, initiated community awareness campaigns, and set up a central control room. Vigilance teams, ward secretaries, and conservancy supervisors were actively monitoring the processes on-site.
KCC Administrator Nazrul Islam Manju, who visited several neighborhoods to assess the progress, reported that approximately 7,000 animals were sacrificed by residents this year. “Though it was a challenging task to clean the city within eight hours, our workers successfully got the job done,” Manju stated.
