Justice Manik, Adv Qamrul Shown Arrested in Uprising Killing Case

Dhaka: A Dhaka court today showed former judge of the Appellate Division Justice AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik and former food minister Advocate Qamrul Islam arrested in a case lodged over the killing of schoolboy Rakib Hasan during the July mass uprising. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate MA Azharul Islam passed the order as police produced the duo before the court and pleaded to show them arrested in the case.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the case documents reveal that Rakib Hasan, a seventh-grade student at ITZ School and College in Mohammadpur, joined the anti-discrimination student rally on July 19. He was shot in front of St Joseph Higher Secondary School and succumbed to his injuries at around 8.30 pm at a hospital.



His uncle Md Nurul Amin filed the case on September 22 against 87 individuals, including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina. Justice AHM Shamsuddin Choudhury Manik was detained by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) from the Zakiganj border area in Sylhet on August 24, 2024, while allegedly trying to flee to India. Police arrested Advocate Qamrul Islam on November 18, 2024, from a house in the Uttara Sector-12 area.
