Dhaka: Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant Professor Ali Riaz today emphasized that the July National Charter will secure the religious rights of all citizens, aiming to establish a society rooted in equality, human dignity, and social justice. Speaking at a views-exchange meeting with members of the Hindu community at the National Museum auditorium, Riaz highlighted the Charter’s commitment to ensuring equal rights for all citizens, irrespective of religious belief.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the event was organized by the Hindu Religious Welfare Trust and focused on referendum campaigning and voter motivation. Ali Riaz underscored the historical struggles for a democratic and humane homeland, noting that the nation has a golden opportunity to enact significant reforms and should not squander it. He urged voters to support the referendum to facilitate these changes, emphasizing that all powers of the Republic belong to the people, who have long been deprived of these rights.

Riaz also addressed the current political system, calling for extensive reforms to dismantle the oppressive structures of fascism. He highlighted the importance of the referendum, stating that victory would pave the way for the desired state system. Discussing the role of the President, he pointed out that constitutional appointments often reflect the will of the sitting Prime Minister rather than independent decision-making.

He criticized Article 70 of the Constitution, which he described as a constraint on MPs’ freedom of expression within their parties. The reform proposal suggests allowing MPs to express independent opinions on issues beyond finance bills and votes of confidence, aiming to enhance democratic development.

Monir Haidar, another Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser, reiterated the importance of social justice and human values as foundational goals of the Proclamation of Independence. He advocated for a merit-based society where children’s identities are defined by their capabilities and efforts. Haidar dismissed false propaganda regarding constitutional changes, urging the public not to be swayed by misleading information.

The event was chaired by Hindu Religious Welfare Trust Vice-Chairman Tapan Chandra Majumder, with speeches from Religious Affairs Secretary Md Kamal Uddin and Hindu Religious Welfare Trust Secretary Devendra Nath Uran.
