Khulna: Excitement has spread in Mehidy Hasan Miraz's home district of Khulna as the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) appointed him as the captain of the ODI cricket team.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the people of Miraz's hometown immediately organized a joyous procession on Thursday night following the BCB announcement. The event was spearheaded by the Kashipur Cricket Academy in Khalishpur, where Miraz's cricketing journey began.
The procession commenced from the academy and concluded at the same venue after traversing the main roads of the Khalishpur area. It witnessed participation from local young cricketers, sports enthusiasts, fans, and supporters of all ages. The rally resounded with slogans like "Our pride, Miraz Miraz" and "Long live captain Miraz," with many participants holding pictures and placards of Miraz.
Miraz's childhood coach, Al Mahmud, remarked, "Miraz is a very qualified cricketer to be the captain of the Bangladesh National Cricket Team at present. Age, experience, and cricketing sense all combined make this a timely decision. I firmly believe that the Bangladesh ODI team will reach a new height under his leadership."
Sajal, a local cricketer from Khalishpur, expressed his sentiments saying, "Miraj is the pride of our Khulna. He is an inspiration to thousands of youngsters not only on the field but also off the field. The young cricketers of the area will be inspired to make Miraz as captain."
Since his debut in 2016, Miraz has been a regular member of the national cricket team. With his consistent performances, the all-rounder has become a symbol of Bangladesh cricket's reliability. The love shown by the people of Khulna towards Miraz at the start of his new role not only recognizes his achievements but also reflects optimism for the future of cricket in the country.
