Dhaka: Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader today declared that despite the recent attack on their central office, his party will persist with its protests and scheduled activities, emphasizing the nation’s current state of crisis. Addressing the media at the party chairman’s office in Banani, Dhaka, Quader commented on the attack that took place at the Jatiya Party central office in Kakrail.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Quader expressed his determination by stating, ‘We are ready to sacrifice, and we’ll see how far they’ll go to stop us.’ He reassured that a rally, planned prior to the attack, would proceed as scheduled tomorrow. Quader also voiced his exasperation over what he described as ‘divisive tactics’, stating, ‘Allah is protecting us; we cannot rely on anyone else.’
He drew parallels between the current political divisions and those he attributed to Sheikh Hasina in the past, lamenting the false charges many individuals now face, which he believes are stifling opposition. Addressing the acti
ons of student activists in the anti-discrimination movement, Quader criticized their approach, remarking on their dismissal of differing perspectives and their interference with judicial processes.
Quader took the opportunity to reiterate Jatiya Party’s enduring commitment to democracy. He emphasized, ‘We don’t stand for one-day democracy; we stand for lasting democracy. Our vision is a government ‘of the people, by the people, for the people.’ This commitment to the people remains a central tenet of their political philosophy.
Reflecting on the legacy of former Jatiya Party leader Hussein Muhammad Ershad, Quader suggested that Ershad’s departure from leadership was voluntary rather than the result of a popular movement. He noted that since 1991, conspiracies have consistently targeted Ershad and the party.
Quader also clarified the Jatiya Party’s stance concerning its relationship with the Awami League, refuting claims of being an ally. He highlighted the party’s history of opposing Awami League policies
that they believe contradict public interest. ‘People say we’re aligned with the Awami League, but we’ve always opposed their policies that go against public interest,’ he argued.
During the press conference, GM Quader was joined by Jatiya Party General Secretary Mujibul Haque Chunnu, Additional Secretary General Rezaul Karim, and Shamim Haider Patwary.
