Japan University Collaborates with Khulna University to Boost Fish Production in Bangladesh.

Khulna: The University of the Ryukyus at Okinawa, Japan, has expressed its intent to collaborate with Khulna University (KU) to advance fish farming practices in Bangladesh. This interest was conveyed by Hiratsuka Yuji, a specially appointed associate professor in the co-creation management department of Ryukyus University, during a courtesy visit with KU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md Rezaul Karim at his office.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Yuji, who also represents the centre of excellence for the sustainable integration of land-based aquaculture with agriculture at Ryukyus University, emphasized their university’s eagerness to cooperate with South Asian institutions, including those in Bangladesh. The goal is to enhance the fisheries sector by adopting cutting-edge technologies.

Yuji proposed a collaborative initiative aimed at boosting fish production through a combined focus on aquaculture and agriculture between KU and Ryukyus University.

KU Vice-Chancellor Dr. Karim welcomed Prof. Hi
ratsuka Yuji and highlighted the ongoing education and research activities by the Discipline of Fisheries and Marine Resource Technology (FMRT) and the Discipline of Agro Technology at KU. He emphasized the numerous prospects available in Bangladesh’s aquaculture and agriculture sectors, noting that fish production could be significantly improved through joint efforts.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Dr. Karim presented Hiratsuka Yuji with a crest featuring the KU monogram. The event was attended by KU Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Harunur Rashid Khan, Head of FMRT Discipline Prof. Dr. Md Golam Sarwar, Associate Professor Prof. Md Shaheen Parvez, and Prof. of Forestry and Wood Technology Discipline Dr. Md Enamul Kabir, among others.
