Dhaka: Dhaka Central Jail authorities today dismissed a newspaper report claiming three high-profile detainees were being served food from their homes, labeling it “entirely baseless and untrue”. “On March 4, 2025, a mass circulation newspaper published a report headlined ‘Salman, Anisul, Shahjahan eat food delivered from their home’ which is entirely baseless and untrue,” the senior supper’s office of Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj stated.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the statement, signed by senior jail super Suraiya Akhtar, criticized the publication of such reports without specific evidence. It argued that these reports undermine the positive activities of prisons and mislead public perception, affecting the morale of jail officials and employees.

The statement highlighted that since July 2024, the Keraniganj Jail, the largest correctional facility in the country, has been operating with increased transparency and accountability. This is in accordance with prison laws, rules, and directives issued by the prison directorate.

The authorities emphasized that routine services are conducted with heightened caution and vigilance, adhering strictly to legal protocols. Special care is taken regarding inmates’ interactions with visitors, communication through mobile phone booths, medical treatments, canteen sales, money deposits, food quality, and preventing illegal goods from entering the jail.

The statement concluded by asserting that the Dhaka Central Jail, Keraniganj, is currently operating with greater transparency and accountability than ever before. It suggested that the publication of reports with specific information and data could aid the facility in maintaining its dynamic service continuity.
