Chuadanga: Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) today arrested two people with 18 gold bars weighing 2.411 kg worth around Tk 3 crore from a passenger bus in Chuadanga district. Acting on a tip-off, the BGB personnel seized the gold bars at 1:10 pm after searching a bus of ‘Purbasha Paribahan’ coming from Dhaka. The bus had left Dhaka with the intention of smuggling the gold bars to India through the Chuadanga border.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the arrestees have been identified as Md. Rafiqul Islam, aged 42, son of the late Khoda Box of Pirpurkullah village in Damurhuda upazila of Chuadanga, and Md. Liton Khan, aged 26, son of Md. Moslem Uddin of Hossainpur village in Debidwar upazila of Comilla. Lt. Col. Md. Nazmul Hasan, Commander of BGB’s Chuadanga Battalion (6 BGB), confirmed the seizure and the arrests in a press release.
The BGB also held two passengers due to their suspicious behavior. The estimated value of the seized gold bars is Taka 2,93,78,213, as noted in the press release. A case was
lodged with Chuadanga Sadar Police Station in connection with the incident.
