Debidwar: Chief Organizer (Southern Region) of the National Citizen Party, Hasnat Abdullah, emphasized the need for collective efforts in nation-building during a recent address. He highlighted the responsibility citizens have to honor those who were martyred and injured during the July uprising, stating that the protestors took to the streets for the wellbeing of the country, not for personal gain.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Hasnat made these remarks after attending the namaz-e-janaza of Abdus Samad, a 52-year-old who was shot on August 5 and died while receiving treatment. The funeral took place at Dhamati Habibur Rahman High School ground in Debidwar upazila. Hasnat spoke of Samad’s dedication to the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, driven by his love for the country and his home district.
In a gesture of support, Hasnat pledged to take responsibility for Samad’s family and assured them of efforts to secure financial assistance from the July Smriti Foundation. The janaza was attended by notable figures including Debidwar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Abul Hasnat Khan, BNP Cumilla south unit member secretary FM Tareque Munsi, and former Debidwar upazila vice chairman Saiful Islam Shahid.
Following the funeral, Hasnat Abdullah met with Samad’s family, providing financial assistance to his widow, reinforcing his commitment to supporting those affected by the uprising.
