Dhaka: Information and Broadcasting Secretary Mahbuba Farjana emphasized the vital role of investigative journalism in promoting justice and upholding the rule of law. “Investigative journalism stands for the truth and ensures transparency. It also plays an important role in increasing public confidence in the judicial system,” Mahbuba stated during her address as the chief guest at a workshop for law reporters held at the National Institute of Mass Communication (NIMCO).

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the workshop, titled “Strengthening Investigative Journalism for Law Reporters,” was organized jointly by the Supreme Court Administration and UNDP, with support from the Swedish Embassy in Dhaka. NIMCO Director General Muhammad Hiruzzaman presided over the event, which featured a keynote speech by Supreme Court Registrar General Dr. Aziz Ahmed Bhuiyan. Dr. Bhuiyan outlined significant progress in the implementation of the judicial reform roadmap announced by the Chief Justice.

Assistant Resident Representative at UNDP Bangladesh, Anowarul Haq, also addressed the workshop as a special guest. He highlighted that investigative journalism is more than just a profession; it is a powerful tool for achieving justice. “The media can convey the voice of the people to the policymakers of the state. UNDP is working closely with the Supreme Court and the Ministry of Law on judicial reform,” Haq added.

NIMCO Director General Muhammad Hiruzzaman praised the journalists, calling them pioneers of social change, underscoring their crucial role in fostering transparency and accountability within the judicial system.
