Dhaka: Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul today stated that the provision for an interim appeal was included in the International Crimes (Tribunals) (Amendment) Ordinance, 2024, with the aim of ensuring a fair trial, though it will be applied in a very limited number of cases. This statement was made in response to a journalist's question following his inspection of the renovation works at the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) building earlier today. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the government decided to amend the International Crimes (Tribunals) Act, 1973, in response to feedback from various quarters regarding errors in the act observed during trials under the previous regime. The council of advisers had given its in-principle approval to the draft of the 'International Crimes (Tribunals) (Amendment) Ordinance, 2024' at a meeting on November 20. The law adviser emphasized the government's commitment to conducting fair trials by following the due process of law. 'A s we want to hold fair trial following due process, the government took the initiative to amend the law,' Asif Nazrul told the media. The inspection was attended by Housing and Public Works Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan, along with engineers from the public works department and ICT prosecutors.
