Dhaka: The Information Ministry has strongly refuted recent reports from Indian media, labeling them as ‘fake and purpose-oriented.’ These reports falsely claimed that the Chief Adviser of Bangladesh had instructed the removal of Liberation War-based content from government radio and television channels.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, an investigation conducted by the Fact Check team of Press Institute Bangladesh (PIB), an autonomous body under the Information Ministry, has determined that these Indian media reports are entirely baseless. The reports from outlets such as india.com and India Herald alleged that Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus had issued directives to ban the broadcast of content related to the genocide during the Liberation War and that Pakistan’s role in the genocide should not be acknowledged.

The PIB Fact Check team found no evidence of any such instructions from the interim government. The allegations included orders to destroy documents and video evidence from the years 1952 to 1971, which were also found to be fabricated. Instead, the investigation revealed that these claims were distortions of an office order from Bangladesh Betar, which was signed by Syed Zahidul Islam, Additional Director (Administration and Finance), on February 2.

The office order in question requested the removal of all images, information, and content that contradict government policy from the websites and Facebook pages of Bangladesh Betar’s centers and units. However, it did not mention anything concerning the Liberation War or Pakistan.

No credible media or reliable sources have corroborated the claims made by the Indian media. Consequently, the Information Ministry has dismissed these reports as entirely false and purpose-driven.
