Dhaka: Professor Dr Md Jahangir Alam has been appointed as the Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Bangladesh University (BU), one of the leading private universities in the country. The President and the Chancellor of the University, Mohammed Shahabuddin, approved his appointment for the next four years, following section 31(1) of the Private University Act 2010, as stated in a BU press release today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Professor Dr Md Jahangir Alam previously held the position of Pro-Vice-Chancellor at the same university. His career began at the Directorate of Fisheries in 1983, and he later joined the Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute in 1985, where he served for about 27 years in roles ranging from Scientific Officer to Chief Scientific Officer.
In 2011, Jahangir Alam joined Gazipur Agricultural University as a Professor. He also undertook additional responsibilities as the Dean of the Faculty, Head of Departments, and Director of International Affairs. His significant contributions to fisheries research were recognized when he received the National Award in 2009.
Professor Alam’s academic contributions include more than 103 publications in various national and international journals, highlighting his dedication to the field and academia, as noted in the press release.
