Dhaka: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam today instructed police superintendents in districts bordering neighboring countries to maintain heightened vigilance to ensure Bangladesh’s security remains uncompromised amidst ongoing India-Pakistan tensions.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the IGP issued this directive during an award-distribution ceremony at the Bangladesh Shooting Sports Federation in Gulshan. The police headquarters released a statement quoting the IGP, emphasizing the importance of preventing any security disruptions due to the conflict between India and Pakistan. “We will make every effort so that our security is not disrupted in this context,” the IGP asserted.
Bangladesh shares borders with India across thirty districts and with Myanmar in three districts. This geopolitical positioning necessitates a strategic response to regional tensions. Meanwhile, the event where the IGP spoke also celebrated the achievements of police personnel in a shooting competition held from May 5-7.
The competition saw Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) emerge as champions, with the Special Branch (SB) securing the runner-up position. The event was presided over by Additional IGP and President of the Bangladesh Police Shooting Club, M. Mustafa Kamal.
Notable winners included Nayek Tanjib Hossain Khandaker of SB, who clinched first place in the .177 Air Rifle Open Sight 10 Meter event for men, while SB female constable Tania Akhter topped the women’s category in the same event. In the .22 Bore Rifle Open Sight 50 Meter event, Rajshahi Metropolitan’s Additional Police Superintendent Nasheed Farhad and SB ASI (unarmed) Ismat Ara won first place in the men’s and women’s categories, respectively.
The .22 Bore Pistol/Revolver 25 Meter event saw Bangladesh Police Academy’s Police Superintendent Sheikh Md Abdullah Bin Kalam and SB constable Runa Akhter secure first place in their respective categories. Naik Tanjib Hossain Khandaker and SB female constable Runa Akhter were honored as the Man and Woman of the Tournament, respectively.
Senior police officers, invited guests, and participating shooters were present at the ceremony, underscoring the importance of the event in fostering competitive spirit and enhancing operational readiness among the police forces.
