ICMPD, BGMEA discuss employing returning migrant workers in RMG

The International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) and the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) have discussed employing returning migrant workers in the apparel industry as they often struggle to find work after coming back to their homes.

 

The two sides also talked about how these workers could be sent abroad by making them skilled with the necessary training.

Golda Myra Roma, senior project manager ICMPD, and BGMEA President Faruque Hassan discussed the current situation of Bangladesh’s readymade garments (RMG) industry and future priorities of the sector for sustainable growth Tuesday in Dhaka.

 

ICMPD Country Coordinator Mohammad Ikram Hossain was also present at the meeting in Dhaka

 

BGMEA President Furuque Hassan gave them an overview of how the apparel industry is making significant contributions to the economic development of Bangladesh, especially through export earnings and employment generation for millions of people.
