Home Affairs Adviser Urges New BGB Recruits to Uphold Force’s Core Values

Satkania: Home Affairs Adviser Lt. Gen. Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd.) today called on newly recruited Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members to uphold the force’s image by embodying discipline, professionalism, and the core values of the organization. Addressing the concluding parade and oath-taking ceremony of the 104th batch of new BGB recruits at the ‘Bir Uttam Mujibur Rahman Parade Ground,’ he emphasized the importance of honesty, intelligence, reliability, loyalty, and enthusiasm in maintaining the discipline and professional skills of the force.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Lt. Gen. Chowdhury, who also serves as the Adviser to the Ministry of Agriculture, highlighted the BGB’s evolution into a well-organized, disciplined, and professional force over its 230-year history. He underscored the BGB’s vital role as the ‘Watchful Guard of the Border,’ tasked with safeguarding the country’s integrity along its 4,427 km long frontiers.

The adviser noted that the BGB has earned the trust of the public through its effective actions in preventing smuggling, drug and human trafficking, combating cross-border crime, assisting civil administration, and managing disasters. He advised the new recruits that discipline is a soldier’s essential trait and urged them to uphold the BGB’s principles of morale, brotherhood, discipline, and efficiency.

Referring to the upcoming general elections, Lt. Gen. Chowdhury stated that approximately 8.17 lakh security personnel would be deployed to ensure successful polls. Specifically, 37,353 BGB members will be stationed across 467 upazilas nationwide. He praised the recruits for their exemplary parade performance and expressed confidence in their future success.

Lt. Gen. Chowdhury highlighted the BGTC and C’s significant role in training BGB recruits over the past 44 years, producing ‘Alert Guards of the Border.’ Since Independence, 72 batches have been successfully trained at the center, including the current 104th batch, consisting of 3023 recruits (2950 male and 73 female) who underwent four months of rigorous training.

The adviser congratulated the top recruits, including Al Imran, who excelled in all subjects, Shapikul Islam and Lubna Khatun for physical excellence, and Shafiqur Rahman Tamim and Nahida Akhter for marksmanship. He also commended the BGB Director General and others for organizing a successful event.

The ceremony concluded with a parade and an armed salute from the new recruits to the home adviser. The event was attended by Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs Dr. Nasimul Gani, BGB Director General Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui, and Commandant of BGTC and C, among others.
