Dhaka: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has taken disciplinary action against its Sherpur district joint convener, Md Shafikul Islam Masud, by expelling him for disregarding party directives and independently conducting organizational activities. This decision was formalized through a press release issued by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the expulsion was due to Masud’s violation of party discipline, as he proceeded with organizational activities contrary to the party’s instructions. The press release confirmed that Masud has been removed from his primary membership and all party positions. Sherpur district BNP Member Secretary ABM Mamunur Rashid Palash also corroborated the expulsion.

Efforts to contact Masud for comments were unsuccessful, as his mobile phone was found to be switched off. Masud, who previously held positions as president of the district Chhatra Dal and Jubo Dal, was currently serving as the joint convener of the district BNP. His independent candidacy for the Sherpur-1 seat, submitted against the party’s decision, was a key factor in his expulsion. The BNP has selected another district joint convener, Dr. Sunsila Jabrin Priyanka, as its candidate for the seat.
