Jamalpur: Hindu community celebrated the holy ‘Astami Snan’ with due religious fervor in the district today. Thousands of Hindu devotees from various parts of the district and adjacent areas thronged Chhonkanda area on the outskirts of the town to take the holy bath on the occasion.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Hindu devotees began taking ablution in the Old Brahmaputra from morning and continued till afternoon. A devotee, Subal Chandra Das, mentioned that since morning, Hindu devotees performed the rituals in a festive mood and peaceful atmosphere. After taking the bath, the devotees offered Puja at ‘Doyamoyee’ temple in the town.
President of the Astomi Snan and Mela committee, Prodip Kumar Som Ranu, stated that a large number of Hindu devotees observed their religious rituals in a festive way. He also noted that the local administration had taken adequate measures to maintain law and order.
On the occasion of the Astami Snan, a three-day folk fair began in and around the Doyamoyee temple, attracting attendees and adding to the festive environment.
